Langston Hughes

(1901-1967)

The final poem for Poetry Month 2019 was short and sweet. It came from Langston Hughes, who was rightly described as the Poet Laureate of the Harlem Renaissance. Many know his poem “Dream Deferred” which was the inspiration for the play “A Raisin in the Sun” – named after one of the poem's iconic lines. Fewer know Hughes' motto.
